Dear reader,
This week I’m diving into the enchanting world of collectors and the art of collecting. Reflecting on my childhood, I recall my own eclectic hoard of treasures; the fragrant allure of scented stationery, Spice Girls memorabilia, stamps, whimsical animal-shaped erasers, Leonardo DiCaprio posters, and the shimmer of pretty stones. At one point, I even collected bottle caps - a quirky and nonsensical chapter in my array of collections.
Needless to say, none of these collections are in my possession anymore and as an adult, I don’t really collect anything, besides the odd seashell for my tiny Cabinet of Curiosities. I guess the only thing that could come close to echoing the fervor of my childhood obsessions would be books, not merely for display however, but for the worlds they unlock within their pages.
The same can be said about this weeks Aesthetically Speaking Interviewee, Veronika Korenblum, who collects Old Céline pieces designed by Phoebe Philo, and wears them beautifully. If there was ever a closet to raid, hers would be one of my top picks.
Collecting might be a childhood hobby for some, and a lifelong pursuit for others, regardless, the act of collecting opens up a realm of fascination. I’m eager to hear about your personal collections, what treasures do you seek?
Love,
Carolina
